Chocolate Berry Smoothie (Paleo, Dairy-Free)

Berries and chocolate is a timeless combination used in many treats and desserts. It works just as well in a smoothie.

HOW TO MAKE CHOCOLATE BERRY SMOOTHIE

I used collage protein powder to make this smoothie a bit more satiating. You can choose a protein powder that suits your dietary intake. For those following a paleo diet, I have a guide to suitable protein powders here.

For chocolate flavour, I used 1 tablespoon of cacao powder. You can use cocoa powder or perhaps your protein powder is chocolate flavoured, which can be used for both protein and choc flavour.

You will need frozen mixed berries, which are also used as ice in this recipe. There is no specific berry mix, just whatever is in the bag or on hand. If you’re lucky enough to have some fresh berries, by all means, use those and add a cube of ice or two to the blender.

For liquid, I used regular coconut milk from a can and water. Make sure to shake it well. If it’s really thick, you can add a little more water to dilute the smoothie. You can also use coconut milk drink, almond milk or any other dairy-free option. I like thick, canned coconut milk as it’s rich and gives a lot of creaminess to the smoothie.

Everything is processed in a blender until smooth. Add a little water for a thinner consistency, use less coconut milk for a thick smoothie bowl version.

Description

This Chocolate Berry Smoothie is dairy-free and low in sugar. Made with cacao, collagen powder, frozen berries and coconut milk, this smoothie is tasty and nutritious.

Ingredients

Scale

1 cup frozen mixed berries

1/2 cup coconut milk (shake the can well, see notes)

1/2 cup water

1 scoop collagen protein powder (such as Vital Proteins)

1 tablespoon cacao powder

Optional: dark chocolate shavings (choose dairy-free chocolate if needed) and extra berries

Instructions

Add all ingredients to a blender and process until smooth. Add a little extra water to thin it out or serve it as a smoothie bowl with chocolate shavings on top.

Notes

I use ful-fat coconut milk out of a can, which I shake well before opening, rather than diluted coconut drink. If using diluted coconut drink, add 1 cup and no extra water instead of 1/2 cup and water.
